International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Dayadmin
On 21st of May 2017, we once again joined International AIDS Candlelight Memorial imitative and paid our respect for those who are no longer with us. The event took place in Northern Avenue, Yerevan, Armenia with the participation of our direct beneficiaries, representatives of State and international bodies (Political, Economic, Press and Information Section Delegation of the European Union to Armenia, Ministry of Health of RA), activists (who already participated in our 7 days training program supported by an unrestricted grant from Gilead Sciences Europe Ltd: Advocacy is the Key) and the general public. Those who participated were given the opportunity to go through rapid and anonymous HIV tests. Further, prevention and treatment information were provided to all through pre and post screening counseling. Overall about 121 persons had been tested without any positive result.
Passerby’s showed their support to PLWHIV by putting symbolic Red ribbon on white canvas, taking pictures of the process and sharing it among their own spheres.
Partner non-governmental agencies, the Ministry of Justice, and with the help of the European Union Delegation to Armenia’s political, economic, and media sections experts; we assembled a puzzle portraying a clear message indicating the willingness of the mentioned organizations to ensure access to treatment in Armenia once the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria cuts down its financial Aid to Armenia after 2021. Thus ensuring that state delegates are lobbied to be made aware of the importance of subsidizing medicine, ensure their effective delivery and treatment options are made sustainable.
Over the course of the day, we also held an interactive Q&A initiative to combat stigma against people living with HIV. Each right answer was rewarded with a candle with a message about HIV.
We are highlighting once again that every single material that were used within the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Event where prepared by our direct beneficiaries and activists.
